Here We Go
Are you ready to begin the 1998-1999 year? It’s the last one before the
millennium hits us, and it starts next month. Let’s make it a good one!
You were to see if your name was on the e-mail list and add it if not as
you walked in. (Did you do it yet???) If an OA member you know is not here,
please add his address to the list if you know it. This is to better connections
within the chapter, giving us a good start on the year.
Spring Camporee
The 1998 Osage District Spring Camporee was held at Camp Mihaska (May 1-3)
with a little twist from the norm. For the first year, the Osage OA Chapter
was granted the honor of hosting the Camporee.
The theme was 'Scouting is for Boys,' and the Camporee was organized
and run by a team of youth OA members. It turned out to serve as an excellent
example and preview of the chapter youths' capabilities.
Troops did a commendable job in organizing their assigned projects. The
chapter would like to thank everyone who volunteered time and services
to the effort, and all those who attended.
In Sympathy
The Osage Chapter extends its condolences to the loved ones of Ermin Rust
(1946-1998). He was an active member of scouting and we thank him for his
service and dedication.
Sectional Conclave
This year’s Sectional Conclave is September 25-27 at Pocah Valley Camp
Joy. The cost is $20-25. The theme is 'Footsteps of the past, strides
to the future.' We are encouraging all to attend (especially youth). Please
contact a chapter officer for more information.
Nominating Committee
Well, it’s that time again. During the upcoming Fall Reunion (September
11-13), the chapter will elect its new officers and appoint new chairmen.
All youth members need to consider being a candidate for one of the many
positions available.
A minimum of five youth members needs to be selected for the Nominating
Committee. This is the group that determines the candidates for chapter
offices. Any youth can volunteer.
The following is a list of the available offices: Chapter Chief, First-Vice
Chief, Second-Vice Chief, Secretary.
The following is a list of the available chair positions: Brotherhood, Camp
Promotion, Ceremonial Team, Induction Enrichment, Ordeal, Program, Service.
Fall Reunion
The Fall Reunion will be held at the S-F Ranch on September 11-13. The Osage
Chapter project is in the Family Camp at the Ranch. The cost for Saturday
dinner and a patch is $8 if mailed by August 12 (today), and $9 thereafter.
Patches alone are $4, and $5 after the early date. Both tickets include
the ice cream social on Saturday evening.
Don’t forget the yard sale in the maintenance area during the Fall Reunion
(1:30 PM, Saturday). As always, it must be said: Please don’t arrive before
5 PM, because the gates will be locked.
Vigil Nominations
Nominations for the Vigil Honor are due in the council office by November
16. The honor is awarded to Brotherhood members who have shown great service
to the OA in the chapter or lodge.
Award Winner
During the May 13 Chapter meeting, the attendance prizes were awarded to
Alex Hofstetter (443) and Tom Selter (82).
Don’t miss your chance to win by not attending the next Osage Chapter meeting--September
12. If you have any items you can donate as a future attendance prize, please
feel free to give them to any chapter officer.
Joker
A man was caught for speeding and went before the judge. The judge said,
'What will you take.... 30 days or $30.' The man replied, 'I think I’ll
take the money.'
A murderer, sitting in the electric chair, was about to be executed. 'Have
you any last requests,' asked the chaplain. 'Yes,' replied the murderer.
'Will you hold my hand?'
Two robbers were robbing a hotel. The first one said, 'I hear sirens. Jump!'
The second one said, 'But we’re on the 13th floor!' The first screamed back,
'This is no time to be superstitious!'
Brotherhood of Cheerful Service
Each of you has committed yourself to the Order of the Arrow. What does
that commitment mean to you? Will you make an effort to attend one or more
of the chapter’s service projects? Remember that we only perform four service
projects yearly, and of that number, only one is done outside the Scouting
community.
Remember OA's Purpose?
- To recognize campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in
their daily lives and, by such recognition, cause others to conduct
themselves in such a manner as to warrant recognition.
- To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit.
- To promote Scout camping, which reaches its greatest effectiveness
as part of the unit’s overall program.
- To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose
of leadership in cheerful service to others.
